Tajikistan

Boasting some of the most beautiful scenery in Central Asia, Tajikistan is a popular destination for visitors looking for outward bound adventures in stunning natural surroundings as well as rich cultural history. Surrounded on all borders by China, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan and Afghanistan, the country is totally landlocked yet makes up for its lack of coast with the countless lakes that dot the rugged Pamir, Alay, and Fann mountains with their crystal clear glacial waters.

Hikers come for challenging climbs to the peaks of some of Central Asia’s most famous mountain ranges, and adventurers come for the utterly breathtaking drive along the Pamir Highway. Meanwhile, historians are attracted by Tajikistan’s long history. With cities that marked important stops on the great Silk Road, the country’s urban centers are full of mosques and madrasas not to mention fascinating excavations of the ancient civilisations that built their strongholds and fortresses there. A visit to diverse Tajikistan is sure to enchant and beguile and prove to be an unforgettable experience.

Weather in Tajikistan

The best time to visit Tajikistan is from mid-June to September, when there is less heat and most areas are accessible.

  • In Dushanbe, temperatures vary between a minimum of 8°F (-13°C) in December and January to a maximum of 91°F (33°C) in July and August.
  • Humidity is generally low.
  • In the mountains, it can reach -49°F (-45°C) when the wind chill factor is taken into consideration, and temperatures can rise to 68°F (20°C) in summertime.
  • In the Pamir Mountains, the climate is semi-arid to polar. In mid-June to September, the cities sizzle, and this is the only viable time for High Pamir treks.
