Hotel of Modern Art
Just an hour's drive from Guilin Liang Jiang Airport (KWL), the Hotel of Modern Art (HOMA) is a veritable wonderland of contemporary art set amidst the striking scenery of Guilin. The property sits in Yuzi Paradise, a huge private park developed by Taiwanese businessman Tsao Rhy-chang. Conceived as a sculpture park and artist colony, the park is home to scores of original art pieces by international artists dotted all over the park, much like the karst formations for which the region is famed. HOMA is comprised of three properties, all of which have wi-fi Internet access: the Dream Palace, HOMA Relais and Chateaux and HOMA Sutra. There are 118 rooms in Sutra and 46 rooms and 12 suites in the Relais and Chateaux property, and for larger groups traveling together, it is possible to rent the opulent Dream Palace, Tsao Rhy-chang's residence when he is in Guilin. Each room is decorated in a unique, whimsical manner with original art pieces; for example, one of the family suite in the Relais and Chateaux features hand-carved, curved wooden doors with oblong, stone handles. The Dream Palace itself is a monument to Tsao's flights of fancy, where sculptures to man's dream of flying abound. There is a full-service spa as well, which offers Chinese and Thai massage, in addition to a fitness center and sauna.

Li An Lodge
Li An Lodge is the culmination of artist and traveler Keren Su’s decade-long quest to build a unique, luxurious lodge amidst the gorgeous Longsheng rice terraces. Su first discovered this area on a photography trip in 1997 and finally opened Li An eight years later; the entire lodge is built without nails and instead uses a traditional Chinese construction technique of fitting pegs into grooves to secure joints. There are 16 rooms, each with unparalleled views of the terraces and their own specific themes and designs. For example, the Harvest room features farming tools used by the local Zhuang minority in addition to other Zhuang-specific pieces, and the Rock room fitted with intricate stone carving and furniture. Although the rooms do not have Internet access, there is a high-speed connection in the business center. Li An Lodge also has a restaurant that serves Western and Chinese food, as well as a bar and sitting room decorated with Su’s photography and other work.
