Hotel Brunton Boatyard

Built in the style of the old colonial buildings in Cochin, this 22-room hotel has maintained its historic integrity. It is set in a restored boatyard facing the sea, at the tip of Fort Cochin, and designed in the style of early Dutch and Portuguese buildings, with whitewashed walls, a sloping tile roof and terracotta floors. All rooms face the sea, and are fitted with antique furniture and high royal beds with steps to climb up to them. The hotel's History Caf? serves a fusion of Dutch, Syrian, Indian and Keralan cuisines in a room paneled with warm woods and teak crossbeams. The Terrace Grill serves the best of that morning's catch. A selection of teas as and classic cocktails are available at the Armoury Bar overlooking the harbor. The hotel has a small pool next to the sea, an Ayurveda center with massage and healing treatments, and a steam room, but does not have a fitness center. There is no business center, though there are secretarial services and Internet access. Approximately 30 minutes from the airport in Cochin (COK).

Coconut Lagoon Hotel

Built in the traditional Kerala style, this lovely complex of 44 freestanding bungalows was reconstructed using thachu shasthra, the ancient rules of carpentry. Rooms are appointed in sage greens, creams and rich colored wood. The property is set on a remote abandoned coconut plantation on the shores of Vembanad Lake, which guests cross by boat as they arrive. Guests can take a sunset boat ride through the backwaters, visit the nearby Kavanar bird sanctuary, or see a performance of Kathakali, the traditional dance of Kerala. Fort Cochin, the hotel's verandah-style seafood restaurant, serves seasonal varieties to keep the dishes as fresh as possible. Other facilities include a yoga and meditation center, swimming pool, and massage rooms, though there is no official spa. There is no fitness center or business center, though there is Internet access. Puthenangadi jetty is 1 hour 40 minutes from Cochin Airport (COK); it is a 25-minute boat ride from there to Coconut Lagoon.
