Iya Onsen
In the heart of the Iya Valley, overlooking a ravine in West Iya (Higashi-Iya), is the boutique Iya Onsen, which has just 21 rooms, two with private rotenburo baths. All rooms feature modern Japanese-style furnishings. The open-air communal bath is accessed by a five-minute cable car ride and is located 500 feet below the hotel at the bottom of the ravine. The onsen features water direct from local sulfur springs; the water is said to be exceptionally good in alleviating stress and fatigue. Besides the baths, other amenities include a Japanese restaurant, Yuzen Keikoku-No-Sato (Village of the Ravine) that uses chiefly local ingredients, and a souvenir shop.
