Cocoa Island
The Cocoa Island resort, run by the exclusive COMO resorts group, is located on a less developed south Malé atoll, a 30-minute speedboat ride from the Malé International Airport. To the west side of the island is the Kandooma Channel, said to be one of the best dive sites in the Maldives, the east side of which is a quiet reef for snorkeling. With just 17 suites and 16 different villas, Cocoa Island is smaller and quieter than some other Maldivian resorts. Lodgings are modeled after traditional dhoni boats, and are joined to the island by wooden walkways. The rooms are constructed with rich brown timber and decorated with antique colonial ceiling fans, white curtains, handmade Italian linens, colorful area carpets and pillows. At the resort's restaurant, Ufaa, dine under an alang-alang and choose from a menu that changes daily, a mixture of Sri Lankan and Indian cuisine focused on locally produced food, seafood and tandoor. There is a fitness center with yoga facilities, as well as the COMO Shambhala Retreat, a spa offering holistic treatments and healing techniques from Asian cultures, a hydrotherapy pool, steam rooms and a meditation area. There is no business center, but wi-fi is available in all rooms at Cocoa Island.

Dhoni Mighili
A private island in the Ari Atoll, southwest of Malé, Dhoni Moghili is an incredibly private and exclusive retreat. There are two options for logding: sleep aboard one of their six beautifully appointed wooden dhonis, in which you can spend nights offshore and then sail around the archipelago by day; and six beach bungalows, hidden away in the trees off the island's pristine beaches. Each dhoni has daybeds in its bow, which can be converted to a spot to dine under the stars; the cabin has goose down duvets for chilly nights and Frette linens. They are also paired with one of the onshore beach bungalows, all of which have outdoor baths, waterfall showers and toiletries by L'Occitane; four of these also have private plunge pools. During your stay you will have a dedicated thakuru, or butler who can respond to any request 24 hours a day. Guests choose when and where to dine, and the resort chef will create a special menu personalized to your palate, using only the freshest ingredients from the surrounding areas. There is also a 24-hour bar serving imported beers, cocktails, wines and champagne. Activities include kayaking, snorkeling, sailing, windsurfing, and private dive trips with a personal instructor. The Sen Spa has indoor and outdoor treatment areas and focuses on a holistic blend of Eastern and Western techniques including Swedish, Thai and hot-stone massage. There is no business or fitness center. The resort is a 20 minute seaplane ride from Malé Airport.
