The New Majestic
The New Majestic, in the heart of Chinatown, was converted from a venerable 1928, art-deco hotel on a street full of small shops, into one of the hippest, funkiest boutique hotels in Asia. Different regional artists of all stripes designed each of its 30 rooms; some—like Singaporean film director Glen Goei's Wayang Room, a romantic fantasy with red silk sheets and Chinese lanterns — are stylish but more sedate, others are decidedly fanciful. The Aquarium Room, created by interior designer Colin Seah, has a bathroom inside a glass cube in the middle of the room. Several of the rooms have “floating beds” which are suspended from the ceiling and attached to walls covered with floor-to-ceiling murals. Despite the design bells and whistles, the rooms are very livable and comfortable, with feather beds and pillows, and baths equipped with products by Kiehl's. Each room also comes with a personal Bose CD/Radio, a plasma-screen TV, and wi-fi. The hotel’s restaurant is one of the most stylish spots in town and serves a contemporary interpretation of traditional Cantonese cuisine. There is a fitness center and an outdoor pool, but no business center. The New Majestic is a 20-minute drive from Changi International Airport (SIN).

Raffles
"To have been young and had a room at Raffles was life at its best" ~ James Michener. Declared a National Monument in 1987, the hotel has grown from strength to strength. The Raffles has 103 suites, dispersed over four wings buffered by fragrance-filled gardens and linked by breezy verandahs. Here, residents are pampered in an atmosphere of privacy and intimacy, with large airy interiors inspired by the colonial bungalows of the early 20th century - lofty 14-foot ceilings, fine Oriental carpets and original etchings. The Raffles has a complete repertoire of fine eateries, which now stand at 18, making it one of the most comprehensive food and beverage facilities in Asia. Located on the third-floor deck of the Courtyard Wing, the hotel’s 24-hour pool, jacuzzis, and health club are for the exclusive use of hotel residents. Gymnasium facilities and equipment include treadmills, stationery bicycles, a universal weight machine, sauna and steam bath in the gentlemen and ladies’ changing rooms. RafflesAmrita Spa at Raffles Hotel offers relaxing wellness therapy in the privacy and luxury of a grand hotel. The property also has a pool, shopping arcade, Raffles Hotel Museum, Jubilee Hall (Victorian-style theater for film screenings) and Raffles Culinary Academy. The Raffles is a 2-minute ride on public transportation to the Orchard Road shopping strip and 20 minutes from Changi International Airport.

The Scarlet
The dramatically designed and packaged Scarlet advertises itself "vivacious and uninhibited." Located in the city's historic Chinatown, this unique hotel occupies a row of preserved shop houses dating to 1868, and an original 1924 Art Deco building, all joined together and converted into a delightful, if slightly over-the-top boutique hotel. Interiors are heavy on black and gold, with liberal splashes of scarlet red, and designed in a style that fuses Art Deco touches with a decadent, boudoir aesthetic. There are 80 plush rooms and suites, including five themed suites – Splendour, Passion, Opulent, Lavish and Swank – each with a décor and ambience that reflects its name. In keeping with this theme, there is a chic contemporary cuisine restaurant named Desire, a bar called Bold, and Flaunt, the hotel’s fitness center. There is also an outdoor Jacuzzi (Soda). There is no business center, but The Scarlet does have a small conference facility, chastely dubbed Sanctum, and wi-fi throughout the hotel. The Scarlet is 20 minutes from Changi International Airport (SIN).
