Our trip to China went beyond our expectations. We hesitate to say it was a once-in-a-lifetime experience - we will travel with Remote Lands again and look forward to those new, exclusive adventures
Taiwan - Taipei
An economic, commercial, and political hub, Taipei is the capital of Taiwan. Home to 12 districts comprising over 7 million residents, Taipei is, along with its outlying suburbs, the largest urban area in Taiwan. First established as a trading post by the Qing Dynasty in the 1700s, Taipei has served as the capital throughout the intervening centuries, first under the Qing, later under the Japanese colonial administration, and finally, the Kuomintang (KMT), who fled to Taiwan after their defeat at the hands of the Chinese Communists. Today, Taipei is a thriving, cosmopolitan city that has, despite its modern facade, managed to preserve much of its natural, cultural, and historical heritage, both in the lush, verdant greenery that rings the city, as well as the many landmarks throughout the city's streets.
