For your first visit to Kyrgyzstan or a welcome return, this eight-day itinerary blends the perfect mix of urban and rural: you will start and end your trip in the capital of Bishkek, exploring the city’s sights and sounds, visit to the large city of Osh, said to be founded by Solomon, and explore the historical retreat of Uzgen. You will also discover the charm of the small towns of Jalal-Abad and Sary-Tash, travel alongside the beautiful Töö-Ashuu and Ala-Bel passes on your way to the Toktogul reservoir, and enjoy an exciting horseback ride or hike in the spacious mountain valley of Chon-Alai. Your camera will get a workout, and so will you!

Day-by-Day

Day 1

Bishkek

Your exciting journey begins in Bishkek, the capital of and largest city in Kyrgyzstan. You will be picked up at the airport, and after you settle in at your hotel, you will set off to the Central Square of the city to explore its main sights, including the Philharmonic House with the Statue of Manas, Lenin's statue, and the National Historical Museum and Museum of Fine Arts. Enjoy dinner at a restaurant near your hotel.

Toktogul

Travel alongside the Töö-Ashuu and Ala-Bel passes to the Toktogul reservoir, a stunningly beautiful 4.5-hour drive with many spots to stop for pictures of the Suusamyr valley and to meet local Kyrgyz nomads. Enjoy lunch in a Chichkan gorge and spend the evening in family-run accommodation in Toktogul.

Day 3

Jalal-Abad

Today, you’ll leave Toktogul to travel alongside the Naryn river to Jalal-Abad (around 4.5 hours). After you arrive in this colorful town, check out the local market with Uzbek and Kyrgyz shops, and perhaps pick up a few goodies to bring home. Enjoy dinner in a restaurant and overnight in a hotel.

Day 4

Osh & The Fergana Valley

Today, you’ll head to Osh, the second-largest city in the country, which - legend says - was founded by Solomon. Along the 2-hour drive, you’ll make several stops: visit Uzgen tower and mausoleums from Karakhanids’ period and explore the shops at the Uzgen’s market. When you arrive in Osh, once located at the crossroads between major ancient trading routes, enjoy lunch in a restaurant and explore the city sights, including Solomon’s throne, a pilgrimage site located on the top of a hill dominating the city where Solomon stopped to pray. Enjoy dinner in a restaurant and overnight in a guesthouse.

Day 5

Sary-tash

On your fifth day, you’ll head to the small, picturesque village of Sary-Tash by way of Chigirchik and Taldyk passes. With such a scenic 3-hour drive, you will stop multiple times for photos and for a lunch. Enjoy some local chit-chat tonight, as you’ll spend the night in a family-run accommodation in Sary-Tash.

After breakfast, enjoy an exciting horseback riding trip in spacious mountain valley of Chon-Alai followed by a picnic lunch in a picturesque meadow. This evening, you’ll head back to Osh.

Bishkek

This morning, you will fly back to Bishkek in time to check out any of the sights you may have missed at the beginning of your trip. For your last evening, enjoy an optional traditional folklore program during dinner, before spending the overnight in a hotel.
