DETAILED DESCRIPTION

Get ready for the hiking trip of a lifetime as you embark on 10 action-packed days in beautiful Sri Lanka. After acclimatizing in the country’s modern capital, you’ll be plunged into the natural beauty of the highlands, exploring the rolling tea terraces and hiking to famous viewpoints for stunning sunrise panoramas and unmissable photo opportunities. Visit ancient sites from the Temple of the Tooth relic in Kandy, home of the Sinhalese kings, to the rock fortress at Sigiriya. Finally, wrap up your adventure discovering the coastal wetlands around the beautiful beachside town of Negombo.

Day-to-Day

Day 1 Colombo

Touch down in capital city Colombo where you’ll be met by your guide and escorted to your comfortable city-center hotel. Check in and freshen up before your guided tour of all the city’s sights, including the Gangarama and Seema Malaka temples and the National Museum.

Day 2 Bogawantalawa Valley

After breakfast at your hotel, you’re bound for the pretty town of Kitulgala, the starting point of your jungle adventure. Choose to hike across the Kelani River and up the Seven Maidens mountains through picturesque tea country, or opt for a trek through the Makandawa rainforest, taking in the rare flora and fauna. Your final destination is a colonial bungalow on the Ceylon Tea estate, set amid lush green tea terraces.

Day 3 Bogawantalawa Valley

An early start has its rewards as you’ll discover today when you embark upon your trek up Adam’s Peak, just after midnight. The four-hour hike sees you arriving at the lofty summit, 7,400 feet above sea level, just in time for the stunning sunrise. After snapping some pictures, make your way back to your bungalow to spend the afternoon at your leisure.

Day 4 Nuwara Eliya

Wake up to a leisurely breakfast served in your room, in preparation for your drive to Haputale in the misty green mountains. From there, take a walk to Lipton’s Seat, a favorite vantage point of tea pioneer, Sir Thomas Lipton. Gaze over the lush valleys and rolling tea terraces before driving to Nuwara Eliya and checking into the elegant Grand Hotel.

Day 5 Nuwara Eliya

Up bright and early for a drive out to Horton Plains, today you can enjoy a picnic breakfast surrounded by nature and the stunning views from World’s End. Look out for monkeys and deer before heading back to Nuwara Eliya. In the afternoon, hike up Single Tree Hill to visit the quaint village of Shantipura.

Day 6 Kandy

Hop aboard a train for a beautiful scenic ride to Kandy. From the historic capital, you’ll be able to visit Udawatta Kele Sanctuary, a botanical paradise packed with exotic plants and animals. In the afternoon, explore the sacred Temple of the Tooth Relic.

Day 7 Dambulla

Start the day with a hearty breakfast at your hotel in preparation for your trek from Knuckles Range, a collection of five peaks that resemble a closed fist, to Deanston Park. On the way, you’ll pass through Corbet's Gap, home to all the distinct eco-systems of the country. Later, catch your ride to Kandalama, where you’ll check into the Heritance Kandalama Hotel with its beautiful views of the surrounding scenery.

Day 8 Dambulla

A morning drive takes you to the rock fortress at Sigiriya, once home to a great palace on its peak. Climb the steps to the Lion Gate, exploring the water gardens and marveling at the frescoes that remain. Back at Kandalama in the afternoon, discover some great trails in the surrounding forests before a well-earned night’s rest back at the Heritance.

Day 9 Negombo

It’s off to the coast today for a boat trip around the rich wetlands of Muthurajawela, home to fantastic lizards, pythons and crocodiles. In the afternoon, relax at the Jetwing Hotel, your luxurious beachside resort in Negombo, or explore the town’s many bars and restaurants.

Day 10 Departure

Say goodbye to Sri Lanka today as you are transferred to the airport in Colombo to check in for your flight on to your next destination.
