Asian cities are exciting, dazzling and great fun – but they can also be hot, chaotic and exhausting, leaving you in need of some serious relaxation at the end of a busy day of sightseeing, shopping & soaking up the local culture. So where better to retire come the day’s end than your own private pool? Whilst private pool rooms/villas are usually more associated with beach resorts, a growing number of urban properties in Asia are including private pool accommodation in their product offerings. Here are 5 of our favourites…

Amansara, Siem Reap, Cambodia

If ever a destination required a private pool, it’s Siem Reap! A day visiting Angkor Wat amongst the heat & crowds can sap the energy of even the most hardy traveller, and so an Amansara Pool Suite is just the ticket.

Located in the centre of Siem Reap, just a short walk from the town’s range of bars & restaurants and a mere 5km from Angkor Wat itself, Amansara is one of Cambodia’s finest properties. Originally built in 1962 as a guesthouse for King Norodom Sihanouk, it has been lovingly refurbished by Aman to become a chic 24-suite property, 12 of those suites having their own private pools.

Factor in a stunning spa, candlelit dinners, and your own personal remorque (with driver) for getting around, and you have the perfect recipe for a relaxing Angkorian experience.

The Siam, Bangkok, Thailand

Bangkok is big, brash, and occasionally overwhelming, and finding a peaceful spot isn’t always easy. So travellers who are happy to retreat from the city’s lively heart at the end of the day should head for The Siam, a stylish new 39-room property situated on the site of a former royal property on the banks of the Chaophraya River.

Designed by famous architect Bill Bensley, The Siam combines contemporary chic with Thai history, with its amazing antique collection being an attraction in itself. Its 12 pool villas, 6 of them with river views, are the ultimate in urban escape – indeed it’s hard to believe you are even in Bangkok once you are floating in the peace of your own private plunge pool – and also boast a private butler to cater for your every whim.

The Siam also boasts a superb Thai restaurant, a Spa, a library, and its own private launch for scenic river transfers to the heart of Bangkok. And when all that relaxation & luxury just gets too much, famous sights such as Wat Arun & the Grand Palace are just a short drive or boat trip away.

The Lodhi, New Delhi, India

Formerly an Amanresorts property, The Lodhi is arguably Delhi‘s most chic urban resort and is located away from the chaos of the city centre, close to the famous Delhi Golf Course.

Consisting of just 39 rooms & suites, the Lodhi is a truly intimate urban retreat, and 14 of its suites come with spacious indoor pools, with stylish underwater lighting to create a unique in-room ambiance. Guests can also enjoy two superb fine dining restaurants and a range of activities including tennis, a large outdoor pool and, a feature that we particularly like and which is rare in Asian hotels, its own squash courts.

The Banyan Tree Club & Spa, Seoul, South Korea

Seoul is one of Asia’s most forward-thinking cities, and that futuristic vision is reflected in one of our favourite urban properties, the Banyan Tree Club & Spa.

Located at Mount Namsan in the refurbished Tower Hotel building, one of Seoul’s first contemporary architectural landmarks, the Banyan Tree offers genuine intimacy with just 4 rooms on each of its floors, with every room/suite boasting its own indoor relaxation pool. Asian city hotels simply don’t get much more peaceful & relaxed than this!

Downtown Seoul is just 10 minutes away, but with 12 restaurants and a range of leisure facilities including its own ice rink and golf driving range, we find it hard to tear ourselves away from the hotel.

Amantaka, Luang Prabang, Laos

Few Southeast Asian towns have preserved their French colonial heritage more lovingly than Luang Prabang, the jewel in Laos’ tourism crown – and Amantaka, which occupies a restored colonial government building close to the river & night market, is one of the finest examples of the town’s architectural heritage.

Of its 24 stylish, comfortable suites, 16 have private pools, perfect for relaxing after a day sightseeing in this fantastic destination. We particularly like the stunningly opulent Amantaka suites.

As with all Aman properties, fine dining comes as standard and Amantaka also has a spa, library and boutique art gallery.
