But, it’s our readers that actually get to go to all of these amazing places and do all of these incredible things while we’re stuck in the office.
We’ve taken a look at the first weeks of August to find our favorite Instagram pics using our hashtag, #takemetoremotelands – with results ranging from Sri Lanka to Hoi An.
Hoi An, Vietnam
Etienne Bossot is a favorite for us here at Travelogues. He takes photography-minded travelers through Vietnam and teaches them how to take award-winning snaps. “As I spend a lot of time bringing photographers into Hoi An, I very often witness the young kids selling souvenirs on the streets and the whole ‘system’ which is enforced by a local mafia,” Etienne told Travelogues. “This is an important matter for the long term development of Hoi An.”
Koh Samui, Thailand
A short trip from our base here in Bangkok, Koh Samui is a popular getaway in our office.
“The temple name is Wat Plai Laem, located on Koh Samui Island. It is a Buddhist temple, and the Big Buddha is called Wat Phra Yai. From Chaweng Beach, it is a 15 minute drive.” David Hogan, travel writer and photographer, told Travelogues.
“There are also other large statues found here like the Guan Yin, or Goddess of Mercy,” says David. “It is a very relaxing place, a great place to clear your mind.”
Nuwara Eliya, Sri Lanka
Nuwara Eliya in Sri Lanka’s center is famed for its lush greenery, natural scenery, and colonial charms. If you find yourself there in April, absolutely don’t miss the Sinhalese and Tamil New Year. “Nuwara Eliya was one of my favorite places because of the stunning views – the tea plantations surrounded by the mountains,” Lilian told Travelogues. “You can get there by train. The ride from Kandy to Nuwara Eliya takes four hours and is considered one of the most beautiful train routes in the world.”
Yangon, Myanmar
This photo from Javi Bernatas is in Yangon, Myanmar. A beautifully composed, gritty shot, we found this symmetrical snap to be deeply touching.
As Myanmar opens to commerce and tourism, the world will see many more soulful shots coming out of its capital: a city with a colonial core, untouched rural areas, and a melting pot of the Myanmar to be.

Beijing, China
From the heart of Beijing, Carolina brings us stunning images of the architecture in the Summer Palace. “I made it to the Summer Palace in the late morning and it never crossed my mind I was going to spend […] more than 6 hours,” Caroline told Travelogues. “This photo was taken in the famous ‘Long Corridor,’ which is 728 meters in length, the longest of its kind. […] To me, it felt even longer. I took my sweet time to appreciate all the details, colors, and patterns that were in the ceiling and its structure.”
