Sunsets on Koh Samui Get Hotter with New AVANI+

Koh Samui already boasts excellent properties for luxury travelers like the Four Seasons and Belmond Napasai, and the AVANI+ Samui hopes to add to that list of exceptional accommodations.

Koh Samui’s newest luxury resort comes in the form of AVANI+ Samui: private pools, 58 total rooms, dining, and a world-class spa. Koh Samui has been in the making as the go-to island destination in Thailand for quite some time; it’s less crowded than its Phuket neighbor in the Andaman Sea, and transportation in recent years has made getting there a cinch. The AVANI+ Samui adds to an already eclectic mix of luxury options on this island paradise.

The resort is found on the less crowded southwestern side in the Taling Ngam area of the island and each room features a private balcony – hence the emphasis on the sunsets. The sunsets on Koh Samui are already pretty famous among regular visitors, and AVANI’s addition to the luxury options is sure to enhance that reputation.

The Deluxe rooms weigh in at 42 square meters, but the four two-bedroom Beachfront Pool Villas are a whopping 227 square meters of space. The smaller Pool Villas (of which there are 18) feature both a private pool and outdoor area. The resort also provides two beachfront swimming pools.

“The southeast coast is underdeveloped which will appeal to travelers looking for a more relaxed, less crowded holiday experience in Koh Samui and the launch of the brand’s first pool villas is a wonderful addition to our portfolio. Modern and fresh, this development will offer an affordable villa resort offering in the region,” Alejandro Bernabé, vice president of operations of AVANI Hotels & Resorts said of the resort in a press announcement last year.

Experiences

Found just an hour flight from Thailand’s capital of Bangkok, Samui has steadily risen in prominence as an island destination in recent years, with luxury brands and restaurants adding to the island’s natural wonders. The AVANI+ Samui takes advantage of the island’s cultural wonders – including Wat Khao Chedi, Laem Sor Pagoda, and the Hua Thanon Fishing Village – as well as the many mountain and jungle adventures Samui offers, such as rainforest ziplining, jungle tours, and hiking.

At sea, Samui is most famous for its clear waters, particularly in the winter months. Sea excursions include sunset on the five islands, snorkeling, trips to Koh Phangan, and deep sea fishing. The waters of this region aren’t as famously clear as the Andaman, but they’re also far less crowded.

Luxury on Samui

The AVANI+ Samui isn’t alone in this Gulf of Thailand island paradise. Apart from names like Banyan Tree, Anantara, and the Belmond, the Four Seasons on Koh Samui is very much the preferred option for luxury travelers. Wellness-minded travelers will do well to note that Kamalaya Wellness Sanctuary is most likely the port of call for travelers who journey to keep fit and healthy; AVANI’s competition at the AVANI+ Samui comes in the form of the AVANI Spa, open daily from 8am to 10pm.

Dining

The New AVANI+ Samui will be feeding its guests with a number of new options. For beachfront dining there’s Essence, the resort’s main feeding salvo conveniently located for the sea and pools. Guests can grab a quick bite at Pantry at AVANI, which is for snacks, teas, and the like; however, a truly unique feature of this new resort is the Beverage Pool Truck, a customized Kombi for cocktails near the pool.

As to food, Koh Samui is already a pretty hopping island, and Essences will be competing with some pretty established chefs.  From the Western fare at The Larder to Bavarian Chef Ferdinand Dienst’s Barracuda, Samui isn’t as culinary or culturally isolated as it once was, but it’s that charm and accessibility is what’s bringing a new generation of luxury travelers.
