The Silkiest Stay in Shanghai

The plush Mandarin Oriental in Shanghai is upping its comfort game with a romantic gambit on guests' love of silk, featuring pajamas, wine tastings, and silk-inspired spa treatments.

For the couple looking for a romantic, silky stay later this year, The Mandarin Oriental, Pudong in Shanghai has a special treat for lovers of the sleek and soft.

To celebrate the arrival of spring, Mandarin Oriental Pudong in Shanghai will be offering guests a smooth stay this spring with offerings of silk. Partnering with MANITO Silk, the Mandarin Oriental Pudong is offering a luxury package with all the silk guests could want, including, a wine tasting experience and spa treatment with silk themes.

Travelers opting for the Sleep in Silk package will enjoy a set of MANITO Classic pajamas made from 100 percent mulberry silk, which is soft and smooth to the touch. Guests will receive the comforts of the Mandarin River View room with views over the Huangpu River, which includes a large circular bathtub and walk-in rainforest shower in the en-suite bathroom.

With the deal available until late June, travelers have plenty of time to book their package, which includes spa credit and a bespoke cocktail at Qi Bar.

Even the “blind tasting” involves a silk touch. At the Fifty 8° Grill participants will wear MANITO silk eye masks as they taste through the selections. Each wine is specially selected to complement new spring menus created by two Michelin star chef consultant Richard Ekkebus. Blind tasting winners will enjoy a complimentary glass of wine and receive a MANITO silk eye mask as a gift.

Travelers who already know what a momme count is will no doubt have heard of MANITO, a Canadian company that harvests it’s mulberry silk from Anhui Province in China, with contracts with thousands of farmers over 30,000 acres of mulberry farms.

Though only tenuously related to the worm, the spa treatment at the Mandarin Oriental’s Forbes Five Star-rated Spa includes a three-hour spa session begins with a welcoming foot ritual and exfoliating body mask of ground lotus seeds, pepper, and Chinese dates. What, you may ask, has that to do with silk? Why they’re all ingredients traded along the Silk Road, of course.

To make the Silk Road experience extra special, guests will enjoy a thermal suite experience and receive a MANITO Light Travel Set containing a pair of shoes, eye mask, and lingerie bag to take home.

Located on the east bank of the Huangpu River, amidst the skyline of the Lujiazui financial district, Mandarin Oriental Pudong, Shanghai overlooks the famous Shanghai waterfront, offering 362 contemporary guestrooms, including the largest Presidential Suite in Shanghai.

This year promises to be a big one for luxury accommodations in Shanghai, with the Amanyangyun welcoming its first guests at the start of the year.  Unlike other luxury properties, even of those of such distinction as Aman, the Amanyangyun is something of a salvaged site – taken from more than 700 kilometers away in Fuzhou and recreated as villas in Shanghai. Also of note in 2018 in Shanghai are the Bulgari in Pudong and the already-opened Capella Shanghai.
