TIME FOR TOKYO

Meiji Jingu Gaien

The odyssey begins in Tokyo with a morning promenade through its distinguished traditional gardens, each of which offers meticulously arranged foliage harmonized with natural elements like rocks and water. Transition to Tsukiji's Outer Market to witness and savor the bountiful autumn harvest. Bask in more of Tokyo's autumnal charm at iconic locations like Icho Namiki Dori or Meiji Jingu Gaien. These locales boast Instagram-worthy avenues adorned with majestic golden ginkgo trees. Take a moment to step into one of Tokyo's numerous local cafes, where you can cozy up with spiced hot drinks and seasonal treats such as chestnut and persimmon.

NIKKO’S TREASURE TROVE

Shinkyo Bridge A short (two hour) journey from Tokyo, Nikko is one of Japan’s most enthralling conurbations. The condensed region is abundant with UNESCO-listed shrines, temples, and captivating sites. Commence your journey at the Shinkyo Bridge, a vivid vermillion-lacquered structure that stands as an emblem of Nikko, guiding you towards the temples. Key attractions in the vicinity encompass the Rinnjo-ji temple, Futarasan Shrine, and Nikko Toshogu—the mausoleum honoring Tokugawa Ieyasu, a renowned samurai leader. Also, within reach is the Tamozawa Imperial Villa, once a summer retreat for the Imperial Family and now open to the public. Its surroundings feature a meticulously groomed Japanese-style garden adorned with maple trees that change hues. Traverse the captivating Iroha Slope (main image) en-route to Okunikko, taking a brief pause to ascend to an observation platform using the Akechidaira ropeway, offering panoramic vistas of Kegon Waterfall, Lake Chuzenji, and the surrounding mountains from an elevated vantage point.

NATURAL HARMONY IN OKUNIKKO

Mt. Nantai and Lake Chuzenji Nikko’s natural attributes hit a vibrant peak at the Okunikko area. Commence your journey at the renowned Kegon Waterfall. The trees surrounding the falls burst into a vibrant display of fiery colors during the fall, enhancing its already spectacular allure. Follow the graceful flow of the water to Lake Chuzenji, where you can stroll along the forested shoreline, taking in the mesmerizing mountain vistas. Equally mesmerizing is the Ryuzu Falls, a smaller waterfall celebrated for the autumnal transformation of the trees that line its banks. Continue upstream along a scenic walking trail into the forest, eventually reaching the serene Senjogahara Marshland. This plateau is adorned with a sea of reddish-yellow grasses and golden larch trees, creating an idyllic setting.

KINUGAWA SPRINGS INTO LIFE

The hot spring resort of Kinugawa Onsen Begin your final day in the Nikko area with a scenic drive to Kinugawa Onsen, famous for its options for hot springs bathing. Upon reaching the Kinugawa Onsen area, invigorate yourself with a hike along Ryuokyo Valley, aptly named the "Valley of the Dragon King." This ravine boasts a stream winding amidst colossal, peculiarly shaped rocks, remnants of a volcanic eruption 22 million years ago, contributing to its distinct and captivating landscape. Spend the rest of the afternoon relaxing in your own private onsen bath at your ryokan or hotel. The following day, transfer back to Tokyo aboard Tobu Railway's striking hyper-modern Spacia X limited express train, enjoying scenic panoramic views along the way.
