Our Team

The Remote Lands team is made up of talented and passionate team members, both in the office and on the ground. Our full-time New York and Bangkok staff specialize in our signature, highly customized trip planning, while the execution is handled on-site by a dedicated network of professional guides, drivers and ground managers.

Each member of the Remote Lands staff brings with them their own history of travel and their own unique personal perspective on Asia. We have been backpackers and honored guests, visitors and locals, upstarts and trusted partners, outsiders and insiders—and from our individual journeys we bring our clients a combined wealth of personal, practical knowledge that no other source can equal.

Catherine Heald

Co-Founder & CEO
Catherine's insatiable passion for Asia began in 1987 when she got on a plane bound for Hong Kong - and stayed for seven years. She is constantly striving to understand Asia at a deeper level including its spirituality as well as its current events and how global geopolitics affect life today. She and Jay co-founded Remote Lands in 2006 after having worked together in the travel tech industry in Hong Kong in the 1990’s. Catherine’s goal is for Remote Lands to change the world in its own little way by bringing together people from disparate cultures to promote global understanding and peace. She considers herself lucky to have found her true calling at the age of 42, and to have been able to turn her life's passion for Asian travel into her profession. Catherine’s view is that the whole point of travel is to learn about the countries one visits, and whether at home or on the road, she considers it essential to continuously acquire knowledge and grow every single day.
