As the trip progressed strangers became friends. Particularly special was the effortlessness: perfect logistics, never having to worry about anything, and, of course, the charming and thoughtful way you organised everything.

Your Accommodations

Aman Tokyo

Aman Tokyo

Since its opening at the end of 2014, Aman Tokyo has been one of the most talked-about luxury hotels in the city. The most striking thing about it is its location; spread across the top six floors of a 40-storey tower in the Otemachi business district, the panoramic views are simply incredible. What’s more, all of the 84 rooms and suites take full advantage of the lofty position with floor-to-ceiling windows letting light in during the daytime, while also framing the breathtaking lit-up cityscape at night. Aman Tokyo has also received praise for its impressive interiors, which have been inspired by minimalistic design, including the use of camphor wood, washi paper and stone surfaces throughout the rooms as well as traditional Japanese facilities such as large ‘furo’ baths. Situated on the 33rd floor, both guests and non-guests can enjoy the fine Mediterranean food at the hotel’s signature restaurant, not forgetting more of those incredible views across Tokyo stretching as far as the Imperial Palace Gardens and Mount Fuji in the distance. Elsewhere, there is a spa, enclosed garden area, swimming pool, wine cellar, cigar lounge and a whole host of other facilities to keep guests entertained.

In 2017, Aman opens their fourth property in China, nestled within an idyllic historical village. More than a resort, the new Aman represents a valuable act of cultural preservation as well as an opportunity for guests to experience a piece of China's deep rural history within driving distance of central Shanghai. The hotel's story begins with the construction of a reservoir, whose waters threatened to flood a small, abandoned village in the mountainous countryside of the Jiangxi province. Together, historians and architects worked to delicately relocate 50 Ming and Qing Dynasty houses, some dating back over 2,000 years. A selection of ancient camphor trees, renowned for their beauty and scent, were also relocated and nursed back to full health alongside the homes they shaded for millennia.  Aman Shanghai is currently accepting enquiries of interest, and may be tentatively included in Remote Lands itineraries scheduled for late 2017.

Amanoi, open in September 2013, is located in the stunning conservation area of Vinh Hy Bay, one of Vietnam’s most sought-after coasts. Its contemporary rooms, suites, and villas, are extremely well-appointed, providing not only stunning coastal views, but also modern comforts effortlessly blended with traditional Vietnamese touches to lend the entire resort a strong sense of place amidst luxurious surroundings. The restaurant, bar, and beach club, serve up some of Vietnam’s finest and freshest foods, along with a tempting selection of cocktails and other refreshments. Guests can spend some time in the resort’s breathtaking spa, in its state-of-the-art-gym, and enjoying a languid swim in its pools and ocean to feel refreshed, rejuvenated, and best of all, totally relaxed. Snorkeling is a crowd favorite in Vinh Hy Bay, and the resort is fully-equipped for those who wish to partake.

Amanpuri, which means “peaceful place,” is a magnificent resort created by the architect who designed the Winter Palace of the former Shah of Iran. The resort has 40 secluded pavilions, each with a private outdoor terrace overlooking the Andaman Sea, and come with a personal cook and butler. Dining options include The Restaurant, which serves Italian cuisine, and The Terrace, which offers Thai and European specialties. Amanpuri has a Beach Club, with windsurfing and hobie-cats available, a 20-meter lap pool and a starting point for diving, snorkeling or fishing. Other facilities include a business center, floodlit tennis courts, and a fitness center with state-of-the-art weight training and cardiovascular machines and floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the sea. Wifi is available in all rooms and public areas. The resort is 25 minutes from the airport in Phuket (HKT).

Amankora Thimphu

Amankora Thimphu

Amankora Thimpu is located on a hillside in a verdant pine forest far above Bhutan’s capital city. The hotel’s architecture is reminiscent of Bhutanese temples, or dzongs, and incorporates white-washed stone buildings around an enclosed courtyard. Sixteen suites are composed of living and sleeping areas, with views of the forest and nearby streams. The spacious terrazzo-tiled bathrooms have soaking tubs and twin vanities. Guests may dine either in an elegant dining room or on the adjacent terrace, both of which serve Bhutanese and international cuisine. Steam and sauna rooms are available, and massage and spa treatments are offered in private rooms nearby. Traditional hot stone baths can be scheduled. There is no fitness center. Fax and Internet are available. The resort is approximately 30 minutes from the airport in Paro.

Amankora Paro

Amankora Paro

Amankora Paro is located just outside of town and features sweeping views of the Paro valley and snow-capped mountains. The hotel, just 30 minutes from Paro airport, has 24 spacious suites designed to evoke a contemporary and minimalist vision of traditional Bhutanese style, incorporating local wood, stone and terrazzo tile. Each suite has a bukhari, or wood-burning stove, and a luxurious bathroom complete with soaking tub. Bhutanese cuisine and international fare are served in the hotel’s great room lounge, dining room, and terrace. The two-level spa contains private areas for massage and treatments, a glass-walled sauna, hot stone baths and a yoga room with a relaxation area. Fax services are available, as is Internet. There is no fitness center or pool, but the Amankora’s idyllic surroundings are perfect for hiking and mountain biking.

The sumptuous Amanbagh hotel is located in the remote Alwar region of Rajasthan on one of the sites used long ago by the Maharajah of Alwar for his mobile tiger hunting camps. With 32 rooms and suites, Amanbagh, which translates as "peaceful garden" is designed as a contemporary interpretation of the great palaces built during India's golden age of architecture. The Restaurant serves a deluxe version of the region's home-style cooking as well as western specialties in a refined atmosphere including indoor and outdoor seating areas. Additionally, there is a courtyard for more casual dining near the pool area. The Bar and Lounge is an intimate place to relax and unwind during the afternoon and into the evening. An ongoing series of lectures on regional art and architecture, history, and philosophy is offered to guests in the hotel's library. Amanbagh has a comprehensive spa program specializing in Ayurvedic treatments as well as a devoted area for the practice and instruction of yoga.
