With travel back at its effervescent best throughout the continent of Asia, it’s easy to overlook the temporary slowdown experienced in the region in the past couple of years. That’s especially true of new luxury hotel openings, which are now appearing with the regularity of a fast-ticking metronome after a fallow period. As a result, it’s an incredibly exciting time to be exploring Asia – here’s a curated list of some of the properties the Remote Lands team is eagerly anticipating for the year ahead. As a result, it’s an incredibly exciting time to be exploring Asia – here’s a curated list of some of the properties the Remote Lands team is eagerly anticipating for the year ahead. SHINTA MANI MUSTANG
Shinta Mani MustangNow open and accepting guests, Shinta Mani Mustang – A Bensley Collection is a 29-suite resort offering unparalleled accommodation in a very remote location, characterized by majestic peaks and a trail of Buddhist chortens. Mustang, or Manthang in Tibetan, translates to "Plain of Aspiration," and is bordered by the magnificent Tibetan plateau.
Shinta Mani Mustang promises an all-inclusive, 360-degree luxury experience in the Nepalese Himalayas. Perched at 2,800 meters in Jomsom, Shinta Mani Mustang serves as a gateway to Upper Mustang, a once-forbidden ancient kingdom. Each suite, styled after traditional local homes, boasts panoramic Nilgiri mountain views. The interiors echo the vibrant hues of the surroundings, visible from every lodge window. Outdoor fire pits invite guests to bask in the warmth while stargazing as temperatures dip. "I have never seen such wildly dramatic landscapes as the mountains and valleys of Mustang" commented the hotel's highly acclaimed designer, the Bangkok-based American Bill Bensley.
SONEVA SECRET
Soneva Secret, Crusoe VillaSoneva, over the years, has become synonymous with The Maldives' gilded brand of barefoot luxury. The chain was founded in the archipelagic Indian Ocean state by Sonu Shivdasani and his wife Eva Malmstrom Shivdasani (hence the name Soneva) are some of the Maldives’ most enticing properties scattered around the Atolls. Their renowned portfolio includes Soneva Fushi and Soneva Jani – and now Soneva Secret is another highly anticipated addition. Located in Haa Dhaalu Atoll, the concept presents 14 villas, blending overwater and island accommodations, notably hosting the Maldives' sole floating villa – reached only by boat. Crafted to embody Soneva's unparalleled hospitality and service excellence, every villa boasts a dedicated trio – a Barefoot Guardian, a Barefoot Assistant, and a private chef. The Remote Lands team recently enjoyed a behind-the-scenes peek at Soneva Secret and we can say with confidence this is definitely one to be excited about.
JANU TOKYO
Janu Tokyo, City View SuitesWhispers of Janu, meaning “soul” in Sanskrit, the anticipated sister brand of Aman, (which means “peace”) have circulated among Aman enthusiasts for years. Finally, in March this year, Janu made its debut with Janu Tokyo, situated in the Azabudai Hills development in Roppongi. Unlike Aman's secluded luxury, Janu Tokyo promises a more vibrant experience while maintaining Aman's hallmark comfort, service, and design. Designed by Denniston, led by renowned architect Jean-Michel Gathy, who has crafted numerous Aman properties, including Aman Venice and Aman New York, Janu Tokyo features 122 guest rooms and suites. The pinnacle of luxury is the Janu Suite, spanning 284 square meters, boasting a residential-style layout, two spacious balconies, a private library and excellent views of the iconic Tokyo Tower.
FOUR SEASONS OSAKA
Entrance of the Four Seasons Hotel OsakaFour Seasons Hotel Osaka will add luster to the accommodation line-up in the Kansai capital when it opens later this year. The property, located in the One Dojima project in the Kinki area of the city, is being created through a collaboration of world-renowned designers and will become a new symbol of Osaka's ever-growing status as a global city. The 175 guest rooms will boast sophisticated design and a spacious atmosphere. The property is being designed by award-winning interior designer Gwenael Nicolas of Curiosity, as well as Shinichiro Ogata of SIMPLICITY, and Yasuhiro Koichi of Design Studio Spin. Nikken Sekkei, one of Japan's leading architectural firms, has been appointed to design the entire building. Otani, the master architect of Nikken Sekkei, has created a graceful design that evokes the image of a sail. The Four Seasons Osaka joins its sister properties in Tokyo and Kyoto and will be the fourth Four Seasons in Japan.
AMAN NAI LERT
Exterior of the Aman Nai Lert BangkokAnticipation is building for the unveiling of Aman Nai Lert Bangkok, the forthcoming opening from the esteemed Aman hospitality and lifestyle brand, scheduled for the third quarter of 2024. Nestled in Nai Lert Park’s expansive tropical gardens Aman Nai Lert Bangkok comprises a 52-suite Aman hotel, inclusive of an expansive Aman Wellness, an Omakase restaurant, Teppanyaki restaurant and Jazz bar, plus Arva their signature Italian dining concept, as well as 39 Aman branded residences, situated on floors 11 to 36, providing owners and guests with the revered Aman lifestyle from this lofty sanctuary perched above the city. Designed by Jean-Michel Gathy of Denniston, Aman Nai Lert Bangkok sees the brand's signature design aesthetic combined with traditional Thai influences to draw a connection to the local heritage and history of its setting. Guests on the 2025 Aman Jet Expedition through Southeast Asia will have an opportunity to experience the property first hand.
