INDONESIA: NAVIGATING ASIA’S MOST EXTRAORDINARY ARCHIPELAGO

ISLAND HOPPING
Raja AmpatAmong the many alluring destinations that make up the archipelago, a few have gained global acclaim in recent years including Raja Ampat. One of the world's most beautiful island chains, Raja Ampat itself comprises more than 1500 picture-perfect steep jungle-covered karst rock outcrops. These mostly mini-sized pockets of land adrift in the turquoise waters feature fine white-sand beaches, hidden lagoons, and vast caves. The area — located just off the coast of remote Papua — is known for its abundant wildlife and a diversity of marine life and coral reef systems that make it an especially special quarry for divers from all over the world. The seascapes of Komodo National Park are also some of Indonesia’s most spectacular. Both the snorkeling and diving in the national park are mindblowing — the marine biodiversity is extraordinary — while this is one of the best places in the world for advanced divers to try drift diving. The Spice Islands of Maluku remain another Remote Lands favorite for a private yachting adventure.
SEAWORTHY VESSELS
Aqua Blu The mastercrafted phinisi schooners that ply azure waters of the archipelago provide the best way to explore the region. These private sailboats, made from ironwood and teak sometimes by shipbuilders descended from pirates, have traversed spice routes since the 16th century. Most of the vessels operating today are works of lovingly-preserved maritime history retrofitted with finest contemporary luxury amenities. Phinisis are recognized as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO, and the Remote Lands team will be happy to share some of our handpicked favorites. If you prefer a more modern style, the ultra-luxe Aqua Blu yacht has several new intrepid departures leaving for the wilds of Papua next year. Contact us to find out more.BEFORE & AFTER
Amanjiwo Enhance your ocean-bound expedition with a deeper exploration of Indonesia and surrounding destinations. We recommend spending a few days in the ultra-modern city-state of Singapore before setting sail, enjoying its myriad attractions like Gardens by the Bay, its shopping and dining, and world-class hotels like the Fullerton Bay and Raffles. Post yachting, head to the ‘Island of the Gods’ – Bali – to enjoy its unique blend of spectacular volcanic coastline, emerald interior, and deep Hindu/animist culture, while staying at stunning resorts like the Soori Bali. Other highlights include the heavenly castaway island of Sumba, home to the rustic-chic Cap Karoso resort, and Central Java where you can explore the world’s largest Buddhist temple, Borobudur, while staying a stone’s throw away at Amanjiwo.#TAKEMETOREMOTELANDS
