OUR FAVORITE TRAVEL MOMENTS FROM 2023

At Remote Lands, we are never short of insider intel. And our already-knowledgable team in New York has been replenishing their wells of travel inspiration during 2023. From the sensational surf spots of Siargao in The Philippines to the cultural highlights of Taiwan, we’ve curated some of our team's favorite travel moments for you here.

REMOTELANDS.COM My favorite travel moment of the year was skiing in Niseko in Hokkaido and staying at the new Park Hyatt Niseko. Apres-ski soaking in the hotel’s onsen was sublime, as was omakase dining at 3-Michelin star restaurant Sushi Shin by Masaaki Miyakawa which has only eight seats and serves world-class Edomae sushi.
Catherine, Co-Founder & CEO One of my favorite Asia travel moments this year was surfing in Siargao, Philippines, at sunset. The island is known as the surfing capital of the country and for good reason. The waves are perfect for all levels (we surfed right next to an active international surf competition) and the scenery is beautiful. After a tiring time on the water, heading back to Nay Palad Hideaway and getting a massage was the perfect way to recover.
AJ, Luxury Travel Designer Getting up close with the famous reptiles of Komodo National Park was a surreal highlight of 2023. They do have to be seen to be believed. And having the pleasure to do so aboard Rascal Voyages ticked two bucket list items at once.
Jacob, Director of Travel & Planning Exploring the different sides of Taiwan was an amazing experience. Getting to see Tainan, the former capital, and the artsy seaside city of Kaohsiung, both on the southeastern coast, was a great way to contrast Taipei and learn more about the country. My favorite aspect of Taiwan, though, has always been nature! And getting to stay at the beautiful Lalu in Sun Moon Lake was a huge privilege.
Jessie, Luxury Travel Designer Visiting Malaysian Borneo has been on my bucket list for a while, and the experience was as exciting as I had hoped. Spotting a pygmy elephant as well as numerous other animals like gibbons and civets was a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
  Molly,
Travel Operations And Training Manager
This year, I was lucky to tick off a long-standing bucket list destination: Bhutan. My favorite day began with a hike through the rice terraces in Punakha to a hilltop monastery for breakfast with the young monks. We then went white water rafting down the Mo Chhu River, and ended the day with pomegranate martinis overlooking the stunning Punakha Dzong.
Sarah,
Senior Luxury Travel Designer
Visiting Kyushu in Japan was a highlight of 2023 for me. There were many wonderful stops along the way but since I love to be awake for sunrise, waking up in Kagoshima to see the sunrise over Sakurajima, one of Japan’s active volcanoes certainly did not disappoint.
Melisa,
Vice President Of Business Strategy
