During the rainy monsoon season between June and August, it rains an average 200-375 millimeters in Kathmandu. Monsoon in Nepal, however, is unlike the typical monsoons of Asia as the country’s topography means rains usually occur at night, resulting in beautiful lush morning scenery and clear views throughout the day. The rains can mean leeches and mud, and such conditions are not always desirable for trekkers and hikers who often wait until autumn. Temperatures ranges between 23 and 25 °C(73-77 °F) in Kathmandu. Parts of the Himalayas here are in a rain-shadow area, such as Manang, Mustang and Dolpo, and the mountains high enough to block out clouds making then drier despite the monsoon.

Celebrated by the Khas women of Nepal to promote the wellness of their husbands, Teej is dedicated to the Hindu goddess Parvati. This three-day festival involves fasting and feasts. Both married and unmarried women participate, the latter group in hopes of being blessed with a good husband in the future.
