20 Years in Asia: Remote Lands Reaches Milestone
Dear Friends and Family of Remote Lands, I am thrilled to announce the celebration of the 20th anniversary of Remote Lands. What started as a far-flung dream back in 2005 has grown steadily and organically into what we are today: winner of dozens of travel awards and widely recognized as the foremost ultra-luxury Asia operator.

I am thrilled to announce the celebration of the 20th anniversary of Remote Lands. What started as a far-flung dream back in 2005 has grown steadily and organically into what we are today: winner of dozens of travel awards and widely recognized as the foremost ultra-luxury Asia operator.
I am so grateful for what we have achieved, and I am acutely aware of how difficult it was to reach this point, with plenty of blood, sweat, and tears along the way. We overcame many crises including the 2008 Global Financial Crisis and of course, the pandemic which hit Asia particularly hard with most Asian countries closed for years. Fortunately with strong leadership, a solid financial base and our commitment to excellence when Covid hit, we were able to survive. As the world opened up we were able to not only grow but thrive to where we are today, better than ever.
Our success could not have happened without some of our milestones. In 2008, we joined Virtuoso as a preferred supplier, and have built long close relationships with the elite travel advisors of the world who come to us for their clients travel to Asia. Thanks to them, we handle the biggest Hollywood celebrities and the top CEOs and finance titans of the world.
Another notable moment was back in 2013 when I got a call from Aman who asked us to be the exclusive worldwide operator of the Aman Jet Expeditions. Since then we have completed more than 30 journeys including Around the World in Three Continents, The Grandest Tour, Discover Southeast Asia, China UNESCO and Mindful & Cultural Journey hitting almost every Aman in Asia, Europe, and Africa. As this hits your mailbox, I will be leading our first expedition of 2026 Discover Southeast Asia.
The travel industry has changed dramatically over the past 20 years. When we first started, my friends and family thought I was crazy. Why would you sell Asia? Nobody goes to Asia. Why don’t you focus on Europe? I always replied that Asia is the only thing I’m any good at, and besides, it’s my passion and I have devoted my life to my love of Asia. Well, it turns out that our timing was perfect and interest in Asia has since exploded. We were there from the beginning, at the right place at the right time.
Initially there wasn’t much interest in Japan or South Korea, and now they are two of our most popular countries. China and Myanmar were top sellers back then, and we are thrilled that China is in high demand again, although sadly Myanmar is off-limits. Believe it or not, we even used to sell North Korea where I spent a week alone back in 2009 (and loved my trip which can only be described as mind-blowing!) but now it is not possible for Americans to go there.
Social media didn’t exist when we first started and online media was much less important than printed press. We have been fortunate enough to have been featured hundreds of times in the Wall Street Journal, New York Times, Bloomberg, Financial Times, Washington Post, Robb Report, Condé Nast Traveler, Travel + Leisure, Palm Beach Post and more.
We have won the Condé Nast Traveler Top Travel Specialists Award 11 times, the Travel + Leisure A-List Award 8 times and Robb Report Masters of Luxury 4 times.
We started out with just Jay and me, the two founders, and now have more than 65 full time team members across three continents in New York, Bangkok, Tokyo, Dubai and Milan. We have built not only a wonderful team but a family.
We are very excited for the future and 2026 looks like it will be our best year ever!
