Designed for travelers seeking cultural depth as much as adventure, the journey combines classic Himalayan trekking with access to one of the country’s most restricted and least-visited regions.
VALLEYS & KINGDOMS:
A TREKKING JOURNEY FROM ANNAPURNA TO MUSTANG
A rare opportunity to experience two distinct Himalayan worlds in a single journey, Valleys & Kingdoms: A Trekking Journey From Annapurna to Mustang is a newly introduced trekking itinerary by Remote Lands. It moves from Nepal’s verdant mid-hills, with sweeping views over the famed Annapurna range, into the stark, high-altitude desert landscapes of the former Kingdom of Mustang.
Designed for travelers seeking cultural depth as much as adventure, the journey combines classic Himalayan trekking with access to one of the country’s most restricted and least-visited regions.
A JOURNEY OF CONTRAST
Pokhara valley
Beginning in Kathmandu, the route heads to Pokhara and the wider Annapurna region, where terraced hillsides, river valleys and traditional Gurung villages such as Dhampus, Landruk, and Tomijong define the early stages of the trek. Over successive days, the landscape shifts dramatically as the trail crosses into Mustang, an arid plateau shaped by wind, stone and centuries of Tibetan Buddhist tradition. This gradual transition is one of the journey’s defining features, offering a powerful sense of movement not only through terrain but through history and culture.
EXPLORING THE FORMER KINGDOM OF MUSTANG
Lo Manthang
Once closed to outsiders, Upper Mustang remains one of the most culturally intact regions of the Himalayas. The journey culminates in Lo Manthang, the ancient walled capital of the former kingdom, where monasteries, chortens and narrow alleys evoke a way of life that has endured for generations. Guided visits to sacred sites and surrounding villages provide rare insight into Mustang’s Tibetan-influenced traditions, art and spiritual life.
COMFORT IN THE HIMALAYAS
Shinta Mani Mustang
Accommodation options in the high Himalaya have evolved remarkably in recent times, and this change is reflected in the lodges that feature along this journey. In the Annapurna foothills, you trek lodge-to-lodge with Mountain Lodges of Nepal; in Mustang, you settle into BENSLEY-designed Shinta Mani Mustang above Jomsom; and in Upper Mustang, you continue at Royal Mustang Resort—comfort remaining consistent even as the terrain becomes more remote.
A JOURNEY LED BY A LEGEND
Jamling Tenzing Norgay
This journey can be led by famed summiteer Jamling Tenzing Norgay, who shares his deep knowledge of Nepal’s Himalayan regions and their cultures throughout the route. An Indian Nepali Sherpa mountaineer and respected guide, Jamling brings a lifetime of experience in the mountains and a profound personal connection to the landscapes encountered along the way.
The son of Tenzing Norgay—who, alongside Sir Edmund Hillary, was among the first to reach the summit of Mount Everest in 1953—Jamling retraced his father’s footsteps by summiting Everest himself in 1996, an ascent documented in the 1998 IMAX film Everest. Jamling successfully led a Remote Lands trekking expedition to Everest Base Camp in 2025, a feat he will repeat in May this year.
