PEARL OF THE ANDAMAN

Phuket opens in just one month. On July 1, Thailand’s paradise island will be open to vaccinated travelers from around the world without quarantine, and now is your chance to enjoy the most famous island in the Andaman Sea before the crowds return. Rediscover this haven of luxurious resorts, rescued elephants, beautiful beaches, and exotic Peranakan fusion cuisine.

Phuket is expected to allow entry to only a very limited number of visitors, so contact the Remote Lands experts to start planning.

  A SANCTUARY FOR GIANTS

The ecosystem of Phuket has been revitalized. Above and below the water, Phuket is a playground of natural wonders. Divers and snorkelers will find mantas and turtles in the clear, blue waters, and pachyderm-lovers will find solace at the Tree Tops Elephant Reserve, an ethical elephant experience that has been looking after Asia’s most sacred animal. If you just can’t wait to visit with their seven rescued elephants, you can donate to this worthy cause here. Donations have helped to feed the elephants throughout the pandemic.

UNESCO CITY OF GASTRONOMY

Phuket’s cuisine is an interesting mix of historic Thai, Malay and Chinese influences, not unlike Penang or Singapore. From fourth-generation Chinese shophouse cafés to fine dining, the island’s foodie scene is more evolved than ever before. Walk through the timeless, colorful alleys of Old Town and sample hidden epicurean delights or book a table at Andara's Silk or Trisara’s PRU, Phuket’s only Michelin-star restaurant, to try the gastronomic delights of Chef Jimmy.

ISLAND ESCAPADES

Whether it’s from the deck of your private yacht or from the seat of a helicopter, the magical karst islands off the coast of Phuket make for postcard-perfect viewing. Experience newly-reopened Maya Bay (above), closed for the past three years to help preserve its marine ecosystems, and the iconic “James Bond Island”, set in turquoise waters famed the world over for their beauty and coral reefs, free from the usual crowds of tourists.
