5 Exciting Experiences in Singapore

Here's our pick of 5 Singapore attractions to set pulses racing, for adrenaline junkies, sybarites, and epicureans.

Singapore is known for many things – shopping, dining, business, food to name but four – but this highly developed city-state is not exactly renowned as a destination for thrillseekers. However, as the city develops at a seemingly unrelenting pace, the number of visitor attractions grows every year and it now boasts several experiences designed for travellers seeking a bit of exercise and/or excitement. Here’s our pick of 5 attractions to set pulses racing…

Ultimate Drive

As Asia’s only street-racing F1 circuit, Singapore is perfect for driving experiences and Ultimate Drive gives speed freaks the chance to drive a selection of supercars (currently a choice of Ferrari F430 F1 Spider or Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder) on a stretch of the actual F1 circuit, as well as extending their drive onto the coastal freeway for a truly exhilarating driving experience. You can even take home a video of the experience, filmed using the car’s onboard HD camera. Want to feel the speed but don’t want to drive? Then sit back & let one of Ultimate Drive’s professional drivers show off his skills!

The name of this popular urban beach resort means “Tranquility”, but there’s plenty for adrenaline junkies to do here. Universal Studios’ first ever Asian theme park is here, offering numerous rides and activities; Skyline Luge offers high-speed jungle luging, day or night, on 650-700m of track; Segway EcoAdventurer is Asia’s first Segway touring experience & allows you to tour the island on one of these fun electric vehicles; Sentosa Golf Club is one of Asia’s finest golf courses; Wave House Sentosa offers real surfing waves; and those who prefer more of a financial risk can try out the casinos at ResortWorld.

Asia’s first ever genuine flight experience arrived in Singapore in 2008, and allows visitors to sit behind the controls of a Boeing 737NG – the very same simulator used for training professional pilots. Following a pre-flight briefing, an instructor is on hand to guide visitors through the takeoff and landing, with a choice of different airports available (you can even land at Hong Kong’s infamous former airport, Kai Tak!) Special flight programmes for children are also available.

Yes, Singapore does have countryside – lots of it in fact. The Southern Ridges is a 10km trail linking several of Singapore’s national parks and is perfect for hikers and nature lovers, as well as military history buffs – the trail takes in Kent Ridge, scene of one of Singapore’s fiercest battles of WW2. As well as coastal walks, the Ridges trail includes a spectacular treetop canopy walk offering stunning views over the countryside. An unexpected slice of nature in this bustling city!
