India in June

The Indian summer lasts from April to June, stretching to July in the northwest desert, with May the hottest month. Temperatures average around 32–40 °C (90–104 °F) in most of the interior.  In Bihar in the middle of the Ganges plain, hot weather sets in and the summer lasts until the middle of June. Much of the north experiences dust-storms, thunderstorms and dust raising winds during the hot season. The stormy winds reaching over 60 kph in some parts. The hot weather makes it ideal for venturing to the country’s cooler hill stations. Shimla in Himachal Pradesh is, perhaps, one of the finest such stations. Littered with temples, churches and fine neo-gothic architecture, the summer temperatures are a cool 15-22 °C (59-72 °C); it is undoubtedly one of India’s smartest summer getaways.

In the Western and Southern regions, summer or pre-monsoon season, lasts from April to June, the hottest month being April. Temperatures average around 32–40 °C (90–104 °F) in most of the interior and going out in the middle of the day is best avoided. Many travelers head to mountains of the north for cooler weather at this time. Those that remain in the south often make their way to the Deccan Plateau, extending over several Indian states in south and central India, it lies between two mountain ranges, the Western and Eastern Ghats that offer cooler hills stations. The finest of these is Ootacamund in Tamil Nadu, which has a balmy temperature between 16-22 °C (61-72 °F) over the summer, with around 100 mm of rainfall. The hill station's lakes, forests, historic buildings and classic railway make it a charming spot to escape the nation's intense summer heat.
