The hotel swimming pool is 68-feet and surrounded by five ambalamas (rest pavilions), comfortable sun loungers and shady palm trees. Guests may enjoy a variety of meals, snacks and refreshing drinks from the poolside bar.

The Library

The library houses a large range of books on the arts, culture, history and societies of Sri Lanka. There is also a computer with the Internet, a good selection of general fiction and non-fiction, international magazines and newspapers. In addition the library displays an eclectic collection of memorabilia drawn from the archives of the New Oriental Hotel, providing a fascinating view into the history of the buildings, the Fort and the town of Galle.

The hotel has two restaurants Zaal and the Dining Room. Zaal serves light meals, afternoon snacks and morning and afternoon tea in a colonial style hall. The Dining Room serves breakfast, lunch and dinner with an international menu and Sri Lankan specialties.

The Dining Room

The opulent Dining Room serves quality cuisine and has a wide menu with everything from steaks to Sri Lankan curries. The food comes well presented with a good wine list. There is also alfresco dining by the poolside and private or romantic meals can be arranged.

Zaal is located in the Great Hall, a large room utilized in Dutch colonial times with many original features remaining. The grand dining hall has high ceilings, old-fashioned over head fans, chandeliers, polished wooden floors and period furniture. Zaal serves regional and Western food with a decent wine list.
