COMO Maalifushi
COMO Maalifushi is the only luxury resort in the pearly white and otherwise undeveloped Thaa Atoll in the southern part of the Maldives. Accessible by a 35-minute domestic flight to Thimarafushi Airport followed by a 25-minute speedboat ride, this is a truly remote and gorgeous getaway. Designed by Japanese architect Koichiro Ikebuchi, the 65 villas and rooms are tastefully decorated with a combination of cultural authenticity and chic modern style. Built with New Zealand pine, floored with teak and artfully thatched, the accommodation options cater to all guests from honeymooning couples in search of peace and romance to families seeking adventure and fun. In the three restaurants, guests can take their pick of dining options to suit their mood. Crystal clear lagoon waters are perfect for swimming and snorkelling, treatments at COMO Shambhala Retreat are sure to relax and rejuvenate, while a range of watersports and a fully-equipped gym are available for more active guests.
Why We Love This Hotel
Location: Set in the turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean in the speckled string of islands known as the Thaa Atoll, over 130 miles southwest of the Maldivian capital of Male, the Maalifushi by COMO is truly a secluded desert island.
History: Opened in 2013, this hotel has already won awards from Five Star Alliance and Best New Hotels, thanks in part to the way it beautifully encapsulates the rich culture brought by its first African settlers in the eighteenth century.
Service: The welcoming and multilingual staff are deeply committed to creating an unforgettable experience for their guests; for the height of attentive service, a dedicated butler is available in select suites.

Maalifushi Villa
At the very end of the jetty for maximum privacy, the Maalifushi over-water villa is a bright, airy, two-bedroom paradise. Sleep soundly in a canopied four-poster bed beneath antique ceiling fans and spend the days relaxing on the sundeck of the private pool, hovering over the sea.

In addition to the resort’s gorgeous pool, there is the COMO Shambhala Retreat at Maalifushi, which boasts the same attention to quality as its counterparts around the world. Offering a range of treatments and therapies, a full spa, not mention yoga pavillion and gym, guests’ well-being is the very top priority.
Spa
The COMO Shambhala Retreat features a fully-equipped spa, complete with steam, sauna and jacuzzis, separate for men and women, in which guests can relax and unwind.
Whether in the resort’s three restaurants - Madi, Thila and Tai, delivered directly to your room, enjoyed in the spa or packed for a desert island picnic, the food at Maalifushi is defined by healthful, fresh and organic ingredients, lovingly and artfully prepared.
Madi
The resort’s all-day seafood restaurant, Madi’s ingredients come fresh from the abundantly populated waters that surround it. The menu is packed with light, healthy dishes that make flavorful nods to Thai and Indonesian cuisine as well as COMO Shambhala cuisine, a unique and healthy dining option rich in living enzymes and nutritional vitamins
Tai
One of the best Japanese restaurants in the Maldives, Tai delivers sushi fresh from the ocean, presented to guests seated around the bars by entertaining chefs. Meanwhile, on the decking outside, infused and marinated meats are sizzled to perfection at the table on traditional yakiniku grills.
Thila
Perfect for the whole family, Thila is a laid-back, open air spot, perfect for al fresco eats by the pool, boasting ocean views and breezes. Guests congregate here to snack on pizzas and salads between dips in the water or games of billiards, sitting back, relaxing and listening to music.
