Macau strikes it lucky with the opening of Capella at Galaxy Macau

The hotel brings Capella’s residential-style luxury and butler-led service to Cotai.

Macau has added another heavyweight to its luxury line-up with the opening of Capella at Galaxy Macau on 11 February 2026, a 95-key hotel positioned as a more private, residential counterpoint to the Cotai Strip’s spectacle.

Occupying a prime plot within the sprawling Galaxy Macau complex, the new Capella is the brand’s first address in the territory and aims squarely at travellers seeking discretion and space rather than casino-floor theatrics.

“This strategic partnership positions Capella at Galaxy Macau as a distinctive expression of our brand vision: an intimate, residential retreat within an integrated resort context,” said Clive Edwards, Senior Vice President of Operations at Capella Hotel Group.

The property comprises 95 suites and penthouses, with entry-level one-bedroom suites starting at 128 square metres. Two- and four-bedroom penthouses stretch to nearly 700 square metres and feature private infinity pools, terraces, winter gardens and dedicated wellness and media rooms, positioning them among the largest hotel accommodations in Southern China.

Paris-based design studio Moinard Bétaille has steered the aesthetic, drawing on jungle motifs and fluid architectural lines to create what it describes as a residential sanctuary within the integrated resort. A dramatic lobby installation anchored by a digital artwork from Hong Kong artist Laura Cheung sets the tone, while custom glass pieces by Czech house Lasvit and hand-finished wall coverings by LaLa Curio add texture throughout.

Dining is central to the pitch. Botanica, a 48-seat restaurant led by executive chef Stephen Hsu, focuses on international comfort dishes with Asian inflections. Pony & Plume, a whisky-led cocktail bar, houses more than 650 labels and leans into ritual and theatre with smoke-infused serves. A further fine-dining restaurant by Hong Kong chef Vicky Cheng is slated to open later in 2026. Need room service? The 24-hour butler service will handle it.

The launch strengthens Galaxy Macau’s ambition to move beyond gaming and into ultra-luxury hospitality, while giving Capella a foothold in one of Asia’s most tightly packed hotel markets. For travellers who want access to Macau’s UNESCO-listed historic centre without surrendering privacy, this latest arrival signals a deliberate shift from spectacle to seclusion.
