September to October is Tibet’s pleasant cool autumn, and a fine time to travel, with the clear blue skies, abundance of yellow leaves, and charming monasteries setting each other off to perfection. Temperatures start to dip, and it falls to between 8 and 20 ºC (46-68ºF) in Lhasa, though it can be much cooler at higher elevations, and the summer rains virtually completely cease, making it a great time to trek, and even take on the mighty Mount Everest in all its majestic glory. Much of the region’s foliage bursts into view during the autumn, the lower mountain reaches becoming a tapestry of rich reds, greens, orange and yellow.
