Raja Ampat

The legend behind Raja Ampat centers around a woman who came across seven eggs. Of these, four hatched into the kings of the four large islands of Raja Ampat (which means "four kings"), while the other three became a ghost, a woman and a stone.

Once a sleepy outpost of Indonesia, the four islands of Raja Ampat have, in recent years, begun to gain a deal of fame for its rich, varied marine life. Estimates by conservation groups show that the diversity of marine life in Raja Ampat is among the highest in the world, with over 1,300 species of fish, 700 species of mollusks, and 537 species of coral.
