Mongolia is a vast country of stark beauty, extreme weather, and exceedingly warm people. Mongolians have traditionally been nomadic herdsmen — and many still are, living in felt yurts (gers), and moving their families, livestock and complete homes regularly from place to place. Mongolian people are mainly Tibetan Buddhists, although some are Shamanists, including the fascinating Tsaatan reindeer herders in the most remote parts of Mongolia's far north near the Siberian border.
Mongolia is one of the least developed — and therefore most enticing — places for intrepid travelers who are happy to eschew their normal creature comforts in return for true adventure and a profound learning experience. Travel by helicopter in order to rapidly reach very remote areas that normally take many days by jeep and horse. If you like, bring your own private chef and luxurious ger (but we do recommend you at least try one night staying with a family in their home for an unforgettable experience).
Remote Lands immerses you in Mongolian culture by providing insider access to private events and extraordinary people. Our journeys introduce you to a well-rounded selection of remarkable people, from government leaders and top businessmen to nomads and camel breeders. Your interactions with these people will be stimulating, edifying and extremely enlightening.
