Our 13-day Indian Safari Adventure itinerary is our own unique escape into the wilds of this amazing country. Historic Delhi architecture; tigers, elephants, and ancient curiosities in Panna, Bandhavgarh and Kanha National Parks; and art deco in Mumbai...it all makes up a dazzling tapestry of urban and rural luxury India.

Day-by-Day

Day 1

New Delhi

Arrive in New Delhi, India’s bustling capital city, and check in to one of our two recommended luxury hotels: The Lodhi or Imperial Hotel. Once settled in, get acquainted with the city on a tour of its unique historical architecture, from Red Fort, a 17th century fort complex that once served as a residence for Emperors, and Jama Masjid, Delhi’s most famous mosque. Savor some retail therapy in one of the city’s oldest and busiest markets, Chandni Chowk, before heading back to your hotel to relax for the evening.

Many aren’t aware that New Delhi has a thriving contemporary art scene - explore some of its best galleries today on a contemporary art tour of the city. Next up, enjoy a shopping excursion that’s all about you: a guided shopping tour based on your shopping desires, from backwater markets to upscale malls. Finally, take in some of the city’s history with a visit to Humayun’s Tomb, the first garden-tomb in India, and final resting place for the body of Mughal Emperor Humayun, and Qutb Minar, the tallest of its kind in the country.

Day 3

Panna National Park

Today, you’ll be flying to the ancient temple city of Khajuraho, one of the country’s most popular tourist destinations, where you’ll get a sightseeing tour of the city before driving 30 minutes to Panna. Here, you’ll check in to one of our two recommended luxury hotels, either the Taj Pashan Garh, or the Sarai at Toria, in Panna National Park.

Location: The Taj Pashan Garh is perched in the Vindhya Hills, in the midst of Panna National Park, which in 2007, was endowed with the Award of Excellence for best maintained national park of India, courtesy of India’s Ministry of Tourism.

History: Once a private hunting grounds for Panna’s royal family, the park was declared a wildlife sanctuary in 1981. Nearby Khajuraho is one of India’s most popular tourist attractions, best-known for its sandstone structures dating back over a millennium.

Consisting of six lodges built from and insulated with local materials, and using sustainable energy, the Sarai’s rooms feature a rustic elegance, with locally-sourced wooden furniture, tasteful interior design, and plush, comfortable beds.

Panna National Park

Explore Panna National Park today and you’ll spot some of the parks most thrilling wildlife, including Indian barking deer, sloth bears, antelope, gazelle-like nilgai, and tigers.

Day 5

Bandhavgarh National Park

Check out of your hotel this morning and embark on a 3-hour drive to the richly biodiverse Bandhavgarh National Park. Here, you can check in to your lodge. Spend some time getting acquainted with your exotic, thrilling surroundings.

Day 6

Bandhavgarh National Park

Today you can explore Bandhavgarh National Park to your utmost desire, taking off on game drives, treks with elephants, and more. Here, you’re pretty much guaranteed to spot at least a few tigers, who are quite populous in the area, along with barking deer, sambar, nilgai, Indian wolf, hyena and Indian bison. 

Day 7

Bandhavgarh National Park

Bandhavgarh National Park is also home to an ancient fort here that may date back as long as two millennia, a museum, and a picturesque view from Climber’s Point. Explore these unique sights today, in addition to your daily interaction with the jungle’s inhabitants. 

Day 8

Kanha National Park

Today, you’re heading for Kanha National Park, around 1 hour's drive away, and home to such exotic creatures as the Royal Bengal Tiger, leopards, the sloth bear, Barasingha and Indian wild dog. Upon checking in to lodge, start your day with a morning birding safari, followed by a game drive in the afternoon.

Day 9

Kanha National Park

You’ll be exploring more of the Kanha National Park’s expansive grounds today, starting with a morning game drive, upon which you’re bound to catch glimpses of some majestic beasts in their natural habitat. After lunch, relax at your hotel, in your tented suite or by the pool. Wind your day down with an evening game drive. 

Day 10

Kanha National Park

Spend another day in the park on morning and afternoon game drives, the final day with the exotic animals of India.

Day 11

Mumbai

Today, you’re heading to thrilling Mumbai, home of India’s rich and famous. Check out of your tented suite and drive to Nagpur, a bustling metropolis in Central India. From here, you’ll take off for Mumbai. Check in to your luxury suite at the Taj Mahal Palace & Tower, a royal- and celebrity-favorite. Get acquainted with Mumbai on an Art Deco architectural tour of the city. Many are surprised to learn that Mumbai has the second largest number of Art Deco buildings in the world.

Mumbai

Start your penultimate day of your Indian Safari Adventure with a visit to UNESCO World Heritage Site, Victoria Station, and the famous Crawford Market. Finish off your day by visiting the city’s contemporary art galleries. Next, pick up some treasures to take home with you on a bespoke shopping trip with your own Mumbai shopping expert, and finish off your day by perusing the picturesque, upmarket areas of Malabar Hill and Marine Drive. Enjoy the can’t-miss sunset from Marine Drive’s promenade.

Departure

After breakfast, spend your time at leisure until your private transfer to the airport for your flight home.

Each individual cottage showcases leather furniture made in Delhi, with massive black and white photo canvasses of the dramatic Panna landscapes. Two main lodges with wide, comfortable lounges on the top floor open onto observation decks with machans, or hunter’s blinds, to help guests stay hidden – all the better to observe wildlife. The Samode Safari Lodge consists of individual chalets, each with a lounge, a tastefully decorated, elegant bedroom with an attached, immaculate bathroom and dressing area, and a private veranda looking out onto the natural surroundings of Bandhavgarh. The Samode’s dining options are varied and plentiful; guests may dine in comfort and luxury at the signature restaurant, sample barbecued fare by the glow of the campfire, savor long meals by the pool, or sit down to quiet, intimate meals in the privacy of their own chalet. The Samode’s amenities include a recreation room, a library, an art gallery, and a swimming pool.
