Angkor was the capital of the powerful Khmer Empire which controlled most of Indochina (the former French colonies of Laos, Vietnam and Cambodia) from the 11th-14th centuries. The scars of war under Pol Pot and the Khmer Rouge are largely healed now in this lovely Buddhist constitutional monarchy of extremely gracious people, delicious cuisine and rich cultural history.
